BARCELONA: HOTEL MERCER

THE PROPERTY

In a quiet artery of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarters hides Mercer Hotel– a luxurious respite from the tourist crowd nearby. The hotel is a clever juxtaposition of old world nostalgia & architecture with modern clean lines & amenities with its warm, natural tones and exposed stone(the hotel was built on a section of the city’s Roman wall). Surely an architecture enthusiast’s delight.

The Junior Suite we stayed in was minimally appointed without it feeling empty or unfinished. It had a calming quality, especially after being in a sea of people around the popular Gothic Quarters. The natural hues of cream, beiges, browns, and the old Roman walls are echoed from the lobby to the room.

The property boasts its own incredible eateries– Adjacent to the lobby is Le Bouchon, a tiny hole in the wall offering a savoury selection of cheese, meats, and wine to enjoy while passing away the late afternoon before dinner. The house restaurant, aptly called Mercer Restaurant, is a beautiful escape from the winding alleys of Barcelona.

Like many properties in the historic districts of Barcelona, a view is hard to come by. However, There is so much to see inside the hotel, you won’t even notice. Venture to the roof top for a glimpse of the district and  a view of more tiny roof top terraces, gazing back at you.

All in all, the attention to detail, the clean lines, the exquisite food, location, and the comfort of Mercer makes this hotel a winner. Add to that the astute service– ever present, and never intrusive, you’ll truly feel well-looked after.

WHAT WE LOVE

  • Charcuterie for breakfast. Never have we enjoyed a finer in-house breakfast than at here. Like a fine dining dinner, breakfast is served with a wonderful choreography by the floor and kitchen team. Linens, plates, and cups are white, upon white, upon white, to allow the impressive breakfast fare to shine.

  • Free mini bar. Well, for the snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, at least.

  • Location. Location. Location. Being nestled in the middle of the Gothic Quarter, the hotel’s location is prime. The Barcelona Cathedral is just a stone’s throw away, and the famous La Rambla is just a 10-minute walk. A plethora of transport options is readily available to take you to further spots in Barcelona.

  • Mostly adults. Hotel Mercer Barcelona is more of an adult hideaway, but children won’t be turned away, of course.
