THE PROPERTY
Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa is a 30-acre private island in southern point of the Maldives. Seven minutes by speedboat from Gan Airport, Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa is a stunning escape from the world– The island even has its own island time so guests can enjoy an extra hour of sunshine.
An island community itself with 3 room types to choose from: the Beach Side Villas are made invisible by the lush greenery by the shore; The Tree House Villas where you get to enjoy the gentle roar of the Indian Ocean; and the Over Water Villas which permits crystal clear views into the stunning lagoon of the atoll. Each room comes with bicycles for guests to freely explore the island’s dense jungle.
We were lucky enough to be able to split our 6-day stay staying in one of their Tree House Villas for the first half and in their Water Villas for the remainder.
The resort’s house reef is vibrant with an endless display of colourful fish, with occasional cameos from stingrays, reef sharks, and sea turtles. A little further out with the resort’s speedboats will allow you to enjoy the Maldivian sunset alongside dolphins. If the escape from vehicles, schedules, and almost time itself isn’t enough to achieve tranquility, some time spent in their award-winning Chi Spa allows for a true escape from life.
Shangri-la’s culinary team brings a mix of local and international flavours from 4 stunning vantage points on the island: Javvu, the property’s main restaurant serves buffet breakfasts and bountiful seafood feasts for dinner on weekends. Fashala for a la carte fine dining using fresh local produce from the ocean and neighboring farms. Dr. Ali’s for Middle-Eastern fare. M-Lounge, which is the island’s beachfront bar to enjoy sunsets with chill music in the background.

WHAT WE LOVE
Exclusive and private. Even in full occupancy, it never feels crowded.
Sustainable and Eco-friendly. Bathroom amenities are in biodegradable/reusable packaging, and water is filtered and bottle on the island.
Turtles. In the norther beach of the island, you’ll find turtle nests. Turtle nesting is not a seasonal event on Villingili Island, so consider yourself lucky if you get to witness it.
Biking around the island. Even after staying for 5 days in the island, biking around never became boring. You can go biking inside the jungle and find ruins from World War II.
